Congratulations (felicidades!) to the five recent graduates of the Jr. Promotora project based in the So. Nogales Highway Colonia in Pima Co., AZ. In the photo above, the students are shown with their instructors at the graduation ceremony held on Tuesday, November 18, 2008. The newly-trained Jr. Promotoras will now work closely with the adult Promotoras already working in the Colonia to promote an enhanced quality of life for residents of the community.
The course required a commitment of five consecutive Saturdays in October and November '08 during which the students became acquainted with their individual strengths and abilities and learned techniques of community organizing and development. The program would not have happened if not for the support of the Pima County Community Development and Neighborhood Conservation Dept. The Project Coordinator is Dolores Encinas.
The students included: Anna Victoria Encinas, Myrna Rivas, Jessica Figueroa, Dulce Velarde, and Kimberly Ponce.
Instructors included: Dolores Encinas, Dr. Hector Encinas and Marisol Ponce.
