BUSINESS WEEK - "THE SUBPRIME WOLVES ARE BACK"
"The Subprime Wolves are Back" was the cover story for the December 1st issue of Business Week. The piece details how many of the major subprime players (some of whom recently got out of jail) are back to their old tricks, this time through-FHA backed mortgages.
NEWSWEEK - "A RISK WORTH TAKING"
Not all subprime lending is bad, and in fact it is still thriving in some quarters. A recent article in Newsweek titled "A Risk Worth Taking" describes how ethical subprime lenders are helping people in marginalized communities buy homes and making a healthy profit. Capitalism is not dead. Here's an excerpt from the article:
"Community-development banks, credit unions and other CDFIs—a mixture of faith-based and secular, for-profit and not-for-profit organizations—constitute what might be called the "ethical subprime lending" industry. Even amid the worst housing crisis since the 1930s, many of these institutions sport healthy payback rates."
UNDERWATER MORTGAGES - BAD AND GETTING WORSE
